Fever in children

This past weekend my son woke up with a fever, and was tired and slightly cranky all day long. So, what did we do as parents? Aside from just holding onto him, we did nothing. Do you think that is bad or the right thing to do?

His temperature got up to at least 102, as it could have been higher but he squirmed around too much to get a full reading. When I got home from the office, I adjusted him and put him in for a nap, and let his body do the rest. Upon waking, I just played with him easy as his body temperature was pretty high. When he woke up on Sunday morning, the fever was gone and he was back to being his happy 'ole self.

No, we didn't give him Tylenol to bring down the fever, we let his body do that on its own. You see, fever is a natural defense mechanism of the body and it is there for a reason. When you articifically bring it down with medications, it doesn't have the ability to fight the fever on its own. By letting the fever run its course, it goes away faster and now he has the ability to fight it off again in the future.

The human body is very amazing in what it can do, you just need to trust in it, remove interference from that healing process, and give it time to heal. It will take care of itself.
